With (slightly) cooler temperatures in the forecast, here are a few ways to get out of the house and enjoy our neighborhood this weekend.

Aug. 31:

Sip and stroll through Bishop Arts during the Bishop Arts wine walk this Thursday from 6-9 p.m.

For $35, attendees will receive a souvenir wine glass and 12 wine pours. At least 22 businesses will be participating in the event.

Check in will be at Mosaic Makers, and tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite.

Sept. 2:

Over $1,500 in prize money will be at stake at the inaugural Right 2 Write Poetry Slam Workshop hosted by the Oak Cliff Cultural Center.

From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. observe and participate in poetry workshops and competitions, including performance workshops, a haiku battle and story slam.

The day will culminate in a poetry slam from 7-10 p.m. Three rounds of poetry slam competition will whittle 15 poets down to a final top 3, who will receive prizes of $100, $500 and $1,000.

Sept. 3:

Celebrate Peaberry Coffee‘s anticipated expansion in Downtown Elmwood this Sunday at a grand opening celebration.

The party will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 3. with BBQ and vendor pop-ups available.

Peaberry Coffee’s first location opened in Kiestwood in 2019, with owner Elijah Salazar describing the menu as the “greatest hits of specialty coffee.”

“The whole purpose of our shop is to serve the community,” Salazar told the Advocate. “To be here for the neighborhood. We’re trying to be reliable, as consistent as possible and quality focused.”
